Calling on Downtown Businesses to Take the Bicycle Commute Challenge!

Please join AmTrust Bank, City Architecture, the City of Cleveland, the Cleveland Clinic, Cuyahoga County, Forest City Enterprises, Kaiser Permanente, Medical Mutual of Ohio, Michael Baker Jr., Inc, the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA), University Circle Inc., Sherwin Williams, Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority, Westlake Reed Leskosky, and Tucker Ellis & West LLP in encouraging your employees to ride their bikes to work on Cleveland Bike to Work Day.

Bike to Work Day is scheduled for Friday, May 15th (with a rain day for the following Friday.)

More details are forthcoming, but the Downtown YMCA will offer free breakfast to bike commuters that day, as well as showers, a place to change clothes, and secure bike parking. An after-work celebration for participants is also being planned for that day on East 4th Street.  Participating businesses, including Flannery’s, the Greenhouse Tavern, House of Blues, Pickwick & Frolic, the Wonder Bar, and Zocalo, will offer discounts to cyclists who bring their helmets to the celebration.

Why participate?
Bicycling is good not only for your employees’ health and the environment, but it can also ease parking problems!

Downtown businesses can support CBW by offering non-monetary support. Here are some activities to consider:

  • Advertise the event within your company, or go all out and make it a company event to encourage your employees to commute by bicycle. CBW organizers can work with you to create an event that’s right for you.

  • Offer discounts to participants on bike-to-work day. This may be a great option for downtown eateries.

  • Challenge another organization to see who can have more participants.

  • Set a good example and bike to work yourself!
