Over 2,000 middle and high school students in the Cleveland, Ohio suburbs of Rocky River and Bay Village are taking the Bike to School Challenge on May 9-27, committing to ride their bikes to school for three weeks to help the environment, improve their health and beat high gas prices. Come to the 2nd Annual Cleveland Asian Festival for Authentic Asian Cuisine, Cultural Performances, Martial Art Demonstrations, Competion Games, Shopping in the World Market, and free screenings at a Health Pavilion with health institutions, and lots of family friendly fun!  No Admission fee.  Free parking at CSU lots S1 & Y.  FREE Bicycle Parking on the NE corner of E. 27th Street and SW corner of E. 30th at Payne Avenue.

Blessing of the Bikes

We're not saying things aren't safe on the road or that ODOT can't create a safe route for you to travel, but if you are so inclined, join others at the "Blessing of the Bikes at St. Mary's Church in Cleveland's North Collinwood neighborhood, after the 10:00 am mass (approximately 11:00-11:30).  Father Kumse (himself a cyclist) will host this blessing, one of the inaugural events for the parish cycling club.

Ride of Silence

Cleveland cyclists will participate in an international Ride of Silence on May 18th. Please wear white and join in support of riders locally, nation-wide and world-wide in support of basic safety for road users and in recognition of those who were injured or killed while riding.

Hundreds of riders will meet at two start points at 5:45pm and departing at 6. Riders meet together at University Hospital in University Circle at 7pm. Riders may then continue or return along route, or easily take RTA. Route and pickup times posted at http://tinyurl.com/cleveland-ros

Pop UP Pearl

On May 21st, the Old Brooklyn CDC and its partners will create a model complete street along Pearl Road between Wildlife Way & State Road.  Based on the Better Block model first utilized in Dallas, TX in 2010, Pop UP Pearl will create, for a day, a complete street with bike lanes, traffic calming, street activity, pop up shops, and art installations.  Pop UP Pearl comes in advance of an upcoming redesign of this same stretch of Pearl Rd which will include complete streets elements.
